چکیده

An 82-year-old man with severe cardiac arrhythmia and recurrent heart failure presented with a 3-year history of erythematous plaques on the left orbita and on the chest. The lesion on his left eye was a hypertrophic actinic keratosis (231.5 cm), a scaly erythematous plaque on the saddle of the nose extending to the opening of the left lacrimal duct. The chest lesion consisted of a 532.5-cm plaque with a hemorrhagic crust that caused recurrent itching. On histologic examination, the epidermal cells in the lower epidermis were atypical and showed large, hyperchromatic nuclei and abnormal mitoses (Figure 1A). The biopsy specimen tested positive for human papillomavirus (HPV) type 33 using consensus primers and polymerase chain reaction.

Imiquimod and lymphatic field clearance: a new hypothesis based on a remote immune action on skin cancer.

Basal cell carcinoma and actinic keratosis are frequent neoplasms. Topical treatments include the recently approved imiquimod cream. We describe here the case of a 68-year-old man with multiple actinic keratosis on the forehead, upper trunk and on the left cheek. In addition, an exulcerated basal cell carcinoma was observed. The patient was advised only to treat lesions on the forehead with imi...

Disseminated porokeratosis palmaris and plantaris treated with imiquimod cream to prevent malignancy.

Sir, Disseminated porokeratosis palmaris and plantaris (DPPP), a subtype of porokeratosis Mibelli, is a rare autosomal dominant genodermatosis first described by Guss et al. in 1971 (1). An early review of the literature showed that 7% of 250 patients with porokeratosis subsequently developed skin tumours (2). Squamous cell carcinomas (SCC), Bowen’s disease (BD), and rarely, basal cell carcinom...

Fifty-five basal cell carcinomas treated with topical imiquimod: outcome at 5-year follow-up.

N oninvasive immunobiologic therapy with topical imiquimod, 5%, cream is an emerging therapeutic option for basal cell carcinoma (BCC). Despite the documented short-term efficacy of imiquimod for superficial BCC, few data exist on the longterm course of imiquimod-treated BCCs. In an effort to evaluate the long-term outcome of patients treated with imiquimod for BCC, we conducted a 5-year follow...
